Act Your Age, Eve Brown by Talia Hibbert, narrated by Ione Butler, is the third in the series about the Brown sisters. Her parents believe she’s a major mess and unable to hold down a job or make a commitment, but it’s clear Eve still hasn’t found her home. Her parents drop an ultimatum and she heads out of the house without a plan. Who needs a plan, when you can stumble into the most perfect job?
This is the third book in this series; you can see my review of the first book, Get a Life, Chloe Brown, and the second book, Take a Hint, Dani Brown, on substack.
Eve is yet another dynamic character from Hibbert, and Jacob is delightful. He is sweet at his core, but outwardly struggles with social interactions. What happens when Eve accidentally hits him with her car? Will she no longer have a trial for the open job at the Cottage? Will she be carted away for hitting Jacob? Of course not, it’s a rom-com, people!
In this book, autism and its characteristics are explored in a well-rounded look of two characters with differing backgrounds and romantic entanglements. What I love about Hibbert’s books is her characters and hoq quirky and real they are. She has a firm grasp of how to handle differences in people and how they should be treated by others, and through these romantic entanglements, we see how each character learns more about themselves and how to handle those different from themselves.
Act Your Age, Eve Brown by Talia Hibbert, is delightful. Like the others in this series, there is a bit too much description of sexual encounters for me, but they may not bother others and may even make these more worth while. I love Hibbert’s humor and her characters, and that’s what keeps me coming back for more.
RATING: Tercet
Talia Hibbert is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author who lives in a bedroom full of books. Supposedly, there is a world beyond that room, but she has yet to drum up enough interest to investigate.
She writes sexy, diverse romance because she believes that people of marginalised identities need honest and positive representation. Her interests include beauty, junk food, and unnecessary sarcasm. She also rambles intermittently about the romance genre online.
Talia self-publishes via Nixon House and is represented by Courtney Miller-Callihan at Handspun Literary.
