The Porches' Quiet Creates Poetry
a writer's retreat
In the quiet of sunrise, when there is no sound, not even birds, the chill of the morning air rolls over you with the fog over the mountains. It is in this silence that your mind begins to awaken, even as the coffee slides over your tongue and your fingers wrap around the mug for warmth in cool October.
Over three days at The Porches Writing Retreat, my mornings were spent in quiet. Living in a multi-generational home is not an easy task for a writer in need of quiet for creation to begin. There’s always loud noise, disruption, and more, and I wouldn’t trade these experiences or moments for anything. However, there is something to be said for quiet.
It’s a recharging experience. It’s a creative experience. There’s so much wonder in the world, but it is easily missed with busy schedules, doctor’s appointments, swim team events/practices/meets, and all the other obligations of modern life.
